Custom ESP32-S3 development board for an upcoming open-source smartwatch, featuring PPG, temperature/humidity, pedometer, and crypto data from API.
Identifying Key Issues
In addition to standard hardware development, the main challenge lay in achieving noise-free wireless charging while optimizing battery performance for this ESP32-based smartwatch.
Defining Our Vision
The goal was to create an environment suitable for successful firmware development, and once that stage was complete, to have a setup we could proudly showcase in our offices and on our walls. This led us to design a stand or wall-mounted enclosure for the environment.
Strategies Used
The GUI was developed using SquareLine Studio, while other internal tasks were handled with RTOS. In parallel with the hardware development, we created a demo flutter app to showcase and interface with all the features this board has to offer.
Outcome Delivered
The result was a minimalist yet sleek wall-mounted or desktop display, capable of continuously delivering a full test experience of the smartwatch’s features and OS in a fully functional form.
